Mr. Mohebul Ahsan is a Lecturer in the Department of Chemistry at Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU), Bangladesh. He joined NSTU in January 2026 after serving as a Lecturer in the Department of Science and Humanities at the Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST), Dhaka Cantonment, Dhaka. He is currently pursuing an M.Phil in Chemistry at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), where he also earned his B.Sc. (Honours) and M.S. (Thesis) in Chemistry. His research focuses on electrochemistry, electrocatalysis, electrochemical sensing, environmental chemistry, and materials chemistry. His work addresses the electrochemical detection and remediation of environmentally important pollutants, including arsenic, chromium, nitrate, and pharmaceutical contaminants. He has published numerous research articles and a book chapter in reputed international journals and has received several competitive research fellowships and grants. His current interests include electrochemical sensor development, fuel cells, catalytic systems, and sustainable environmental technologies.
Abstract: This research focuses on the development of novel bimetallic electrocatalysts for the rapid, sensitive, and selective detection of environmentally significant inorganic pollutants, including arsenic, nitrate, chromium, and hydroxylamine. The project employs electrochemical fabrication techniques to prepare nanostructured bimetallic catalyst-modified electrodes and investigates their surface characteristics using advanced analytical tools such as SEM, XPS, EIS, and ICP-OES. The developed electrocatalysts are evaluated through voltammetric and amperometric techniques to optimize their sensing performance, selectivity, and detection limits. Real environmental water samples collected from pollution-prone regions of Bangladesh are analyzed to assess practical applicability. The project aims to provide a cost-effective and portable sensing platform for environmental monitoring, public health protection, and water quality assessment. Beyond environmental applications, the developed catalyst materials have potential uses in energy conversion technologies, including fuel cells and hydrogen evolution systems. The outcomes of this research are expected to contribute to advancements in electrochemical sensing, catalysis, and sustainable environmental technologies.
