Imam Hossain is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Microbiology at Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU), Bangladesh, where he has been contributing to academia and research in microbiology since 2018. He earned both his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Microbiology from NSTU and has accumulated over six years of teaching and research experience focusing on infectious diseases and bacterial pathogens. Prior to his current appointment, Imam Hossain served as a Research Associate at the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR), Dhaka, and gained further research training at the International Center for Diarrheal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b). His research projects span antimicrobial resistance, bacterial genomics, environmental microbiology, and molecular diagnostics, often addressing public health challenges relevant to Bangladesh and Southeast Asia. As Principal Investigator or Co-Principal Investigator, he has led and participated in multiple funded research projects, including genomic surveillance of bacterial antibiotic resistance, studies on microbial contamination in aquatic and food environments, and One Health investigations into zoonotic diseases. His research has resulted in numerous peer-reviewed publications in international journals, and he currently has several manuscripts under review. Imam Hossain actively supervises MSc student research on bacterial pathogenesis, antibiotic resistance, and environmental microbiology, and has served as examiner and co-supervisor for several graduate theses. He regularly participates in international workshops, has received the National Science and Technology Fellowship, and holds membership in the Public Health Foundation Bangladesh. His technical expertise includes advanced molecular techniques such as real-time PCR, metagenomic sequencing, phylogenetics, and bioinformatics analysis, alongside strong skills in traditional microbiological methods. He is committed to continuing research and academic leadership to advance the field of microbiology in Bangladesh and beyond.
