About Dr. Bhakta Supratim Sarker

Bhakta Supratim Sarker, born in the village of Barati under Mirzapur Upazila of Tangail district, Bangladesh, is an academician and researcher in the field of Fisheries. He is the second child of Khagendra Nath Sarker and Anjali Biswas. He pursued his passion for Fisheries by obtaining a BSc in Fisheries (Honors) in 2002 and an MS in Fisheries in 2003 from Dhaka University, Dhaka. His dedication to the field led him to embark on a Ph.D. course from 2017-2023 at Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh, with financial support from the BAS-USDA Program (PALS FI 43). His doctoral research, conducted under the project titled "Generation of saline-tolerant tilapia: A need-based study for the coastal zone of Bangladesh," was successfully completed with the prestigious Bangabandhu Science and Technology Fellowship Trust Ph.D. (in-country) Fellowship. He initiated his professional career as a Marketing Officer in Livestock & Fisheries at ACI Limited. Subsequently, he joined the Department of Fisheries, Government of Bangladesh, as Deputy-Assistant Director for the Fisheries Habitat Restoration Project in Inland Open Water Bodies in Dhaka Division, Matshya Bhaban, Ramna, Dhaka. Since July 2009, he has been an integral part of the Department of Fisheries and Marine Science at Noakhali Science and Technology University, Noakhali, where he currently holds the position of Professor. Throughout his career, Bhakta has actively pursued continuous learning, participating in numerous in-country training programs related to Fisheries and allied fields. He has made significant contributions to the academic community, with over two dozen scientific papers published in reputable journals. He is a life member of Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB) and the Fisheries Society of Bangladesh (FSB). In his personal life, Bhakta Supratim Sarker married Uma Sarkar in 2011, and together they are proud parents of a son named Noirrit Sarkar and twin daughters, Urneesha Sarkar and Nineesha Sarkar. His commitment to both family and academic excellence exemplifies his well-rounded and accomplished life.
