Academic Profile of Dr. Abdullah-Al Mamun

Dr. Abdullah-Al Mamun

About Dr. Abdullah-Al Mamun

I hold a position as Associate Professor in Department of Fisheries and Marine Science, Noakhali Science and Technology University, Bangladesh. Did my PhD at the University of Stirling, UK at the system Aquaculture group under commonwealth scholarship program (2012-2016). I have 12 years of experience in conducting research related to brackishwater aquaculture, aquatic food system, nutrition sensitive aquaculture, nexus between aqua-food and public health and LCA of fish and fish products. The PhD research mainly focused on seafood farming system in Bangladesh and it’s interlink to local food security and global trade. This research focus was later extended to form a consortium to work on developing a metrics to understand nexus between seafood consumption and health outcomes of adolescent girls to address critical 1000 days in LMICs settings. These research have funded by IMMANA.  Current position also covers research on nutrition sensitive aquaculture, value chain, small-scale fisheries (SSF), livelihoods and hidden harvest in coastal Bangladesh. Independently and jointly supervise post-graduate research students from Europe and LMICs. Key partner of inter-disciplinary research platform and leading national research program.

In 2020, my proposal ‘Climate change and aquaculture intensification: Potential impacts on undernutrition in Bangladesh’ was selected for an IMMANA Fellowship.
