About Dr. Md. Kamal Uddin

Md Kamal Uddin received the Bachelor degree in Computer Science and Engineering from University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh in 2009. He received his Master's degree from the same institute in 2010, and the Ph.D degree in Computer Vision from Saitama University, Saitama, Japan, in 2021 under the Monbukagakusho/MEXT scholarship. He is currently working as a Professor in the department of Computer Science and Telecommunication Engineering, Noakhali Science and Technology University, Bangladesh. His main research interests include computer vision, pattern recognition, machine learning, person re-identification and video surveillance. His current research project is 'Person Re-identification based on RGB-D sensors'.

Experiences and Activities


Academic projects and Funding:

1. Project Title: Establishment of an Advanced Data Science, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and High-Performance Computing (HPC) Laboratory at Noakhali Science and Technology University (August, 2025 to August, 2027). HEAT Project-12121 (Funded by UGC and World Bank). Key Role: ASPM. Value of Project: 448.42 (BDT in Lakh)


2. Project Title: Person Re-identification with 3D LiDAR Sensors (July 2024 to June 2025). Funded by Research Cell, Noakhali Science and Technology University, Bangladesh. Key Role: Principal Investigator. Value of Project: 1.3 (BDT in Lakh)

  • The main objective of this project is to develop a person re-identification system with 3D LiDAR sensors, which preserves personal privacy of an individual. This system will also work in very poor lighting conditions or absent of light using 3D LiDAR sensors, which is not possible with traditional RGB cameras.

  • 3. Project Title: Cross-modal Re-Identification for Service Robot (July 2022-June 2023). Funded by Research Cell, Noakhali Science and Technology University, Bangladesh. Key Role: Principal Investigator. Value of Project: 1.2 (BDT in Lakh)

  • The main objective of this project is to develop a heterogeneous camera network with modern RGB-D sensors for elderly monitoring, which will provide personalized services to the aging people by using cross-modal person re-identification technique in the indoor environments.
